I have a refugee S permit, what are my rights and duties?

FINANCIAL AID

  • By request: financial assistance at the asylum seeker scale according to the cantonal directives in force regarding social and financial assistance for asylum seekers and similar statuses.

WORK

  • Possibility of working as an employee or self-employed in all sectors of the economy. A request for work authorization must be made to the OCPM by the employer or by the person with an S booklet who intends to carry out an independent activity.

PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS

  • All the usual social security deductions
  • Withholding tax

GRANT OF A RESIDENCE PERMIT – PERMIT B

• If, after 5 years, the Federal Council has still not lifted the temporary protection, the person to be protected receives a B permit from their canton which ends when the protection is lifted.
• 10 years after the granting of the S permit, the canton can issue a C permit to the person to be protected.

RIGHT TO TRAVEL OUTSIDE SWITZERLAND

• Possibility of traveling outside Switzerland and going to Ukraine for a maximum of 15 days per quarter.

FAMILY REUNIFICATION

Right to family reunification for the refugee’s spouse and his or her minor children
