GROUNDS FOR GRANTING A S PERMIT:

The S permit is granted to a group of people defined by the SEM. This is temporary protection granted as long as these people are exposed to serious general danger, in particular during a war or civil war or during situations of generalized violence.

  • The S permit is granted for the period of one renewable year. The person who filed an application for provisional protection is assigned to a canton.
  • The holder of an S permit can work upon arrival in Switzerland as an employee or carry out an independent gainful activity.
  • However, gainful activity is subject to authorization which must be issued before taking up employment.
